Bellway has embarked on its annual recruitment drive for the next generation of housebuilding talent, as the country marks National Apprenticeship Week (February 9 to 15).

The national housebuilder has launched its 2026 apprenticeship programme, offering roles in a variety of key trades such as bricklaying, joinery and groundworking.

A total of 38 apprenticeships are being offered across England, Scotland and Wales, with candidates having until Sunday 15 March to apply.

While there are opportunities in a wide range of disciplines spanning the entire business, 15 of the roles are in construction trades, with eight bricklayer, five joiner, and two groundworker vacancies.

Brad Preston, an apprentice joiner at Bellway’s Arden Glade development in Keresley, near Coventry, joined the housebuilder in September 2025, as part of its most recent apprenticeship recruitment programme.

The 21-year-old, who lives in Tamworth, said: “It is fantastic to be part of the joinery team at Arden Glade where we help build high-quality homes for our customers. Instead of being stuck in a classroom every day for years at university, I am out, on the job, learning the skills from experienced and qualified professionals.

“This scheme is brilliant because I am getting paid to learn my trade. As part of the programme, I work five days a week on site and then have block release with the NHBC at its training hub in Lichfield. After two years, I should qualify as a joiner. It’s given me the opportunity to pursue a career in construction, doing the job I love.”

Ivenjit Bassi, 24, from Hounslow, joined Bellway as an apprentice engineer in September 2024 and is based at Bellway North London’s headquarters in Ruislip.

She said: “The apprenticeship format works very well for me because I tried university then realised full-time studying did not suit me. There is no job guarantee and you could finish with a sizeable debt. Also, I was reading architecture but quite quickly came to the conclusion that I was more interested in engineering.

“This Bellway scheme gives me the security of a salary with a prestigious construction company where I am being paid to study and am learning on the job. I love problem-solving and working out details to ensure that plans come together as they should, so this role suits me perfectly.”

Laura Cooper, Head of Learning and Organisational Development at Bellway, said: “Developing highly qualified people who can do the skilled work required to build homes is essential for the future of the industry so that it can deliver the high-quality housing that the country needs.

“Site-based construction roles make up a higher proportion of the vacancies we are advertising under our apprenticeship programme this year, reflecting the importance of highly skilled trades to our business and the wider industry. In addition to this, we are looking to recruit 10 trainee assistant site managers. At the same time, we are also offering a variety of opportunities in other areas of the business, from architecture, engineering and quantity surveying to IT and customer care.

“An apprenticeship with Bellway is a valuable opportunity to build a career with one of the country’s largest housebuilders. The programme allows learners to develop their skills and ultimately become expert, accomplished, and confident in what they do – all while earning money and gaining first-hand experience of the industry.

“Bellway is committed to being an employer of choice and that means giving our people the opportunities and the support they require to develop and progress. We are looking for highly motivated people who want to grow and learn. Whether you are a school leaver, or someone who is already in the workforce and looking to pivot towards a new industry or a new type of skill, we want to hear from you.”
