Founded in 2009, David James Architects & Partners Ltd is an established Dorset-based design led chartered architectural practice. Providing bespoke designs solutions for a range of clients, the practice has won numerous awards since its inception.
2019 has proved to be another busy year for David, Laurie, and the team at David James Architects, with DJA designs receiving further recognition and an ever-expanding project list.
David James Architects offer a full architectural package, from the initial concept through to building completion. Their services include design and planning, interior design, detailed and technical design, tender process, and project management. For the developer, DJA provide feasibility studies and master planning. They have a wealth of experience in designing multiple units, apartment blocks, retirement blocks and care homes. DJA have an excellent reputation for their designs and bespoke detailing on both their contemporary and traditional styles.
David James Architects have an established client base across the South of England, including national and local developers, local housing authorities, and private clients. Reassuringly, they have very strong links with many local authorities, and have considerable experience in negotiating planning applications, including deputations to planning committees and participating in appeals. In addition, they have a proven track record for gaining planning permission nationwide, even for very challenging sites. DJA provide sympathetic and thoughtful design solutions tailored to each unique site.
Amongst others, David James Architects have won their category in the International Design & Architecture Awards for three years in a row. Recently, DJA designed ‘House Ortega’ achieved a 5 Star award in the Residential Property Category for Dorset, in the International Property Awards. ‘House Ortega’ is one of three luxury houses known as Luscombe, designed by David James Architects for renowned developers Excellare.
Last year’s International Property Awards also recognized a DJA design, with their project ‘La Serena’ winning the award of ‘Best Architecture Single Residence’ UK. This project was also Highly Commended as Single Unit Development of the Year in the Premier Guarantee Awards 2017, and was shortlisted in the 2018 International Design & Architecture Awards.
David James Architects are well known for designing bespoke luxury properties in coastal locations. As a firm they have also gained a reputation for designing top-end apartment schemes, retirement blocks and master planning projects.
They have a number of exciting projects in the pipeline for 2020, notably the redevelopment of a disused urban seafront car park into an impressive contemporary apartment scheme. This design sympathetically responds to the surrounding area, with the overall massing of the building broken down into four distinctive components. ‘Living’ walls have been integrated into the design, softening the exterior and adding to the building’s ‘eco’ credentials.
DJA are currently working on a number of sizeable apartment schemes. One of which is a contemporary scheme located in Poole, Dorset, comprising 99 apartments allocated between 3 blocks utilising various cladding materials in conjunction with ‘green’ sedum roofs where possible.
As a practice, David James Architects are very proud to have a large proportion of Chartered Architects, who are both registered with the RIBA and Architects Registration Board (ARB).
