Gracewood Construction Appoints New Commercial Manager from Berkeley Homes

Gracewood Construction appoints new Commercial Manager - Jason Smith

Residential developer and contractor, Gracewood Construction, part of the Gracewood Group has appointed Jason Smith as its new Commercial Manager.

Smith joins from Berkeley Homes and brings over 20 years’ experience in quantity surveying, management and commercial planning. He has worked with many of the national housebuilders including Bellway Homes, Fairview and Lovell Partnerships and with main contractors such as Mansell, Crispin & Borst. Most recently, Smith was commercial manager for Berkeley’s Kidbrooke Village development, managing 19 surveyors and responsible for the cost control of the billion pound regeneration project.

The former quantity surveyor will bring a wealth of commercial acumen to Gracewood combined with measured cost planning, package tendering and subcontract management across all developments.

The appointment comes during an exciting period for Gracewood as it begins work on the largest airspace development scheme in the UK, building 142 new homes on the Eric Estate in Mile End, delivering over 80 per cent of homes for affordable rent and intermediate homes opportunities.

Commenting on his appointment, Jason comments: “I am incredibly excited about assisting Gracewood Group at a time of growth. It is great to bring my cost management skills to a company that is open to alternative methods of construction, and one interested in challenging projects like at the Eric Estate. We are already looking at several interesting new sites and different methods of construction such as light gauge steel frames.

“Gracewood Group has a refreshing ethos to its approach in delivering construction projects and I look forward to working with the team, and the Housing Associations it partners with to create much needed quality homes.”

Daniel Grix, Managing Director of Gracewood Construction, comments on the appointment: “Jason will bring his expert eye of procurement to our projects ensuring each one is using the best fit for purpose methods and materials. His commercial sense will ensure Gracewood Group moves with the times and help us to transform cities from the ground up.”
