Wates Group has increased its fleet of electric maintenance vehicles by over 50% in a second major investment in its property services fleet in under 12 months.

The 30 new ID. Buzz Cargo vans will be used by the property services teams to support the fit-out, refurbishment and maintenance of social housing properties and non-domestic buildings across communities around the country.

Offering a load space capacity of 3.9m3, the ID. Buzz Cargo offers maintenance teams the flexibility they need to carry out day to day repairs and improvements whilst driving down carbon emissions and providing more sustainable access to properties within Ultra-Low Emission Zones.

David Morgan, Executive Managing Director of Wates Property Services, said: “Since 2021 we have introduced 55 fully electric vehicles, replacing some of our older diesel vans. Our latest investment into electrifying our fleet highlights our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint in our operations and the work we do on behalf of our customers to support a thriving planet.”

Craig Cavanagh, National Fleet Manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “Wates Property Services selected our ID. Buzz Cargo panel van due to their outstanding abilities as a work tool, paired with great comfort and flexibility for the drivers as they support their nationwide network of properties. We’re confident that the vehicles will exceed the expectations of the finance team, with low-running costs making it the perfect partner for the whole business.”

Having already invested in 10 electric vans in 2021 and 45 electric cars in September 2023, Wates is well on its way to electrify their full fleet of commercial vehicles, with a target to electrify 100% of their supervisor vehicles by the end of 2025 which is part of the Groups Environmental Sustainability plan.
