This December, Miller Homes Scotland is supporting 16 local schools, community projects and charities in need, donating £15,000 to organisations that play a vital role in strengthening communities near its Scottish developments.

Miller Homes’ Community Fund, in its third year and fifth round of funding, welcomes applications for funding from charities and community groups across the country. To date, Miller Homes Scotland has supported over 116 local groups near its developments in Scotland through the Community Fund, with £89,500 awarded to worthy causes.

The homebuilder, alongside its timber frame business, Walker Timber in Bo’ness, is supporting a selection of groups across the East and West of Scotland during this round of funding, including: Riverview Community SCIO, Bloomin Bo’ness, Firefly Gallery, Bo’ness Children’s Fair, Park Planters, Storehouse Foodbank, Bo’ness Cluster Active School, Lothian Children’s Deaf Club, Whitecraig Christmas Lights, Broxburn Colts 2013, Lothian Phoenix Wheelchair Basketball Club, Edinburgh United Football Club 2013, Beith Theatre Group, Garnock Valley Pipes and Drums SCIO, April’s Street Feet and Clydebank Ladies Choir.

The Community Fund initiative makes a direct impact to those in need near Miller Homes’ communities.

David McGrath, Miller Homes’ Executive Managing Director, Scotland and North, commented on the initiative: “Fostering a strong community spirit is at the heart of what we do at Miller Homes. Community Fund directly supports the people and organisations closest to our developments, and we’re always heartened by the applications. It’s inspiring to see the impact our grants have on local projects and we’re looking forward to kicking off our sixth round of funding next year.”

Kirsten Abioye, co-founder at Lothian Children’s Deaf Club said: “Thanks to a generous £1,000 donation from Miller Homes, we can continue our mission at LCDC to support deaf children and their families.

A big part of that is providing opportunities to learn BSL so we hope these resources will encourage and support BSL learning in schools. This also fosters community learning, where hearing children have the opportunity to learn alongside deaf children and helping to create an inclusive school environment where everyone feels they belong.”

Mark Thomson of Beith Theatre Group said: “We are so grateful to Miller Homes to be awarded this grant. Being flexible with our lighting and sound equipment allows us to be more present out with our venue and support other great community groups.”
