Tributes Paid as Tony Carroll Founding Partner of Lumsden and Carroll Passes Away

Lumsden and Carroll

Tony Carroll, a founding partner of Lumsden & Carroll Civil Engineering, has passed away aged 82.

Tributes have been paid to Mr Carroll, who along with Jack Lumsden, founded Durham-based Lumsden and Carroll over 50 years ago, building a legacy that lives on in the £140 million business which forms part of today’s Esh Group.

Throughout his time at the group, the firm expanded across the North East, and into Yorkshire and the Humber, while ensuring the humble origins, from which the business was founded on back in 1970, remained the bedrock of Esh’s culture.

Tony passed away on Monday 25th April following a short illness.

Leading the tributes, Esh Group Chief Executive Officer, Andy Radcliffe, said: “Our thoughts are with Tony’s family at this sad time. Tony was one of the nicest men you could possibly wish to meet. A towering man in both stature and in personality, there are many, many people who will credit him for helping guide them through their careers. His work ethic, dedication and vision are things we can all aspire to”

“The success of Lumsden & Carroll is a testament to Tony’s astute knowledge, hard work and love of all things civil engineering. On behalf of all employees, both past and present, we will ensure his legacy continues.”

The funeral will take place at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs RC Church in Esh Winning on Friday 6th May at 1pm with a gathering to follow afterwards at the village’s Newhouse Club. Donations are being made in Mr Carroll’s memory to Cancer Research UK.
