Millwood Selects Homelessness Charity Porchlight as its 2022 Charity of the Year

Millwood Designer Homes is proud to announce its charity partnership for the next financial year, Kent-based homelessness and mental health charity Porchlight. It is one of Kent’s largest charities and has supported over 9000 individuals in the last year alone. Millwood’s Managing Director, Nick Stonley, recently took part in this year’s CEO Sleepout at Leeds Castle, sleeping rough for the night with nothing but a sleeping bag to raise funds for the charity.

Porchlight works with some of the country’s most vulnerable people. Some are living on the streets; others need support to prevent or resolve any issues that could put them at risk of homelessness. It also gives them support with mental health, housing, education and employment so that they can get to where they aspire to be in life.  Millwood’s support has come at an important time for the charity, which has seen an increase in demand for services due to the recent cost of living crisis.

According to Porchlight, demand for services has increased significantly due to the ongoing cost of living crisis. These individuals can no longer afford to eat, heat their homes, and pay their rent. Over the past 12 months, the charity’s work has included preventing 1,093 people from losing their homes, supporting over 560 people sleeping rough in Kent, and helping 3,230 people in managing their mental health. Porchlight predicts that even more people will need their help in the coming year.

Kate Boulding at Porchlight comments: “Millwood Designer Homes’ support is coming at a critical time as we see a rise in the need for our services due to the cost of living crisis, and as we brace ourselves for demand to increase further. We really appreciate the support from a company that has such a strong affinity to our work. We look forwards to working with Millwood on some exciting fundraising prospects and would like to extend heartfelt thanks for their support.”

Millwood Designer Homes participation in this years’ CEO Sleepout Event held at Leeds Castle saw Managing Director Nick Stonley sleep rough for the night to raise money for the charity. His night sleeping on the streets raised an impressive £2,245 (including Gift Aid) which will be able to fund Porchlight’s important services, such as their free helpline, a vital service providing a listening ear and advice for distressed individuals facing a housing crisis or struggling with their mental health. Alternatively, donations could fund ‘move on packs’ of bedding, towels, crockery, kitchen equipment, cleaning products, food and electricals to help clients feel more at home in their new accommodation.

Millwood Designer Homes would like to thank those who have sponsored Nick Stonley in the CEO Sleepout so far. Donations can still be made in support this of this important to cause to help fight homelessness: Donate here.
