Road safety and efficient delivery were at the forefront of WJ’s latest Innovation Day, which saw delegates from National Highways learn about the business’ latest product, services, and solution updates.

With members of National Highways’ senior management team, regional heads and various other leaders in attendance, WJ showcased a variety of its newest technological advancements, helping further cement its position as leaders in road safety innovation.

Taking place at its Engineering & Training Academy in Stoke-on-Trent, visitors participated in discussions and presentations on the road to net zero, big data, efficient asset management, and what the future holds for new innovations. In addition to this, WJ conducted a series of demonstrations of some of its latest developments.

Two of these involved WJ’s vehicle innovations, including ThermoPrint, which has been successfully tested on the road network with National Highways, and the WJ Autonomous PreMarker. Both advancements are set to revolutionise the industry by making pre-marking and installing markings safer and quicker for workers.

Other innovative equipment, such as WJ’s Solar CCTV Units, a new captive shot blaster, and its latest retro-reflectometer were also on display. This technology enables WJ to survey full lane widths and assesses the retro-reflectivity of all markings, using state-of-the-art Machine Vision technology and AI.

Martin Webb, Innovation Director at WJ Group said: “Hosting events such as the Innovation Day allows us to show National Highways our commitment to introducing new technology that improves efficiency and performance as well as keeping people safe. As an industry leader, we aim to set the standard by being at the forefront of innovation and receiving National Highways’ feedback ensures we are providing exactly what the industry needs.”

In addition to hearing from WJ leaders, other members of the team hosted a workshop where they presented upcoming innovations currently in development. This allowed National Highways to see what new products are currently in the pipeline while also gathering feedback on the concepts.

Wayne Johnston, CEO of WJ Group, said: “The Innovation Day allowed us to grow our already strong relationship with National Highways as both teams were able to network and discuss the achievements showcased at the event. Our R&D team works incredibly hard to ensure WJ are always at the forefront of current needs and trends within the industry. Events such as these are vital to helping us demonstrate to our partners what is possible, in addition to understanding their challenges and what we need to do so we can deliver an even better service in the future.”
